MS350 series monochromator-spectrographs are general-purpose spectral devices, completely automated, with enough versatility to satisfy most spectroscopy applications.
We propose several configurations, a wide choice of diffraction gratings, a great number of various accessories and two types of control software.
Choice of configuration:
You can choose necessary device configuration for your task to be solved from the given below list of options or you can consult our specialists on this issue.
Housing of MS350 series monochromator-spectrographs
- a housing with embedded controller
- worm mechanism of grating rotation
- input mirror
- basic mirrors (focusing and collimator)
- integrated shutter
Housing options:
- with standard aluminium (Al+MgF2) coated optics
- with standard gold coated optics
- with imaging (astigmatism corrected) aluminium (Al+MgF2) coated optics
- with imaging (astigmatism corrected device modifications) gold coated optics
- with interference optics for all options of the MS350 housing, available on request
Diffraction grating assembly
MS350 series monochromator-spectrographs are available with two types of diffraction grating mounting:
Automated turret (models MS3504 and MS3504i):
Up to 4 gratings may be set in the turret. Use of the automated turret allows fast switch of gratings with the help of the control program. Turret axis is orthogonal to the grating rotation axis (wavelength scanning) and provides a high repeatability of the set wavelength while the gratings are switched.
Input port and entrance slit
The devices of this series have one input port on which an entrance spectral slit is installed.
There are two types of slits:
- manually operated
- automated
All spectral slits have standard coupling flanges providing direct attachment of various accessories of own production to the entrance slit:
- optical fiber adapter
- condenser F#-matcher
- filter wheel
- fast shutters, etc.
Integrated shutter
MS350 series devices have an integrated shutter. It is used for measuring of the background signal or dark signal of photodetector and also for protection of the detectors from high light intensities – the shutter is automatically shut while switching the gratings, filters, zero-order wavelength setting or change of the output port. The shutter can be controlled through software or via the external device TTL-signals.
Output ports
MS350 series devices have two output ports – axial and lateral. If you intend to select output port you should use an optional motorized flip output mirror.
Either exit spectral slits, or adapters for multi-channel detectors can be installed on each output port.
MS350 monochromator-spectrographs can be provided with the following options of output ports:
- one axial output port
- one lateral output port
- two output ports
One lateral output port:
The lateral output port should be used for the detectors with no opportunity of being attached to the axial output port of the device due to their dimensions. For one lateral output port a fixed flip mirror is used. In configuration with one lateral output port an axial port is covered with a cap.
Two output ports with mirror:
When both output ports are used the automated output port selection mirror is installed in the device for the fast switching between the ports. A high precision of the output mirror positioning (better than 0.03 nm for 1200 l/mm grating) allows obtaining of reproducible spectra at switching output ports while scanning.
Spectral slits
Monochromator-spectrographs of MS350 series have two types of input and output spectral slits:
- manually operated
- automated
Additional equipment:
All spectral slits have standard flanges that make possible attachment of various accessories of own production directly to the entrance slit:
- optical fiber adapter
- condenser F#-matcher
- filter wheel
- fast shutter
- detectors based on photodiodes and PMT
- adapter for IR detector
- other custom accessories
Manually operated spectral slits:

Parallelism | ± 1 µm |
Accuracy (slit width 1 mm) | ± 10 µm |
Repeatability | ± 1.5 µm |
Reading accuracy (micrometer) | 2 µm |
Height | 10 mm |
- Width: regulated from 0 mm up to 2.0 mm.
- Parallelism: ± 1 µm.
- Accuracy (slit width 1 mm): ± 10 µm.
- Repeatability: ± 1.5 µm.
- Reading accuracy (micrometer): 2 µm.
- Height: 10 mm.
The slit width is operated manually by means of the micrometer. Slit height is regulated by a diaphragm in the range from 0 to 10 mm. Diaphragm division value 0,5 mm.

In the automated spectral slits a stepper motor is used for PC control over the blades opening width. The slit width also may be controlled manually by means of a micrometer screw. The slit height is regulated by a diaphragm in the range from 0 up to 10 mm.
Control of the MS350 series monochromator-spectrograph
Monochromator-spectrographs of MS350 series are completely automated spectral devices.
The basic control of the monochromator-spectrographs is executed through the embedded controller. It performs continuing control of commands execution received from the external control device.
Besides, the embedded controller takes control over the built-in ADC which processes signals from the integral photodetectors – PMT, photodiode and etc.
External control of the devices can is performed through PC.
DevCtrl software:
The control software DevCtrl is supplied with the monochromator-spectrograph.
DevCtrl controls over all drivers and units of the device and accessories. The software also gives an access to the system parameters and setup coefficients of the device.
Spectroscopy software SpectraSP:
Spectroscopy software SpectraSP is intended for joint control over monochromator-spectrographs and detection systems based on the integral or multi-element photodetectors. SpectraSP provides simultaneous control over the device and optical radiation detection process by means of various detectors with subsequent processing of acquired data and their graphical representation.
Via SpectraSP is performed:
- control of the device units and mechanisms
- registration of optical radiation using various detectors
- processing of spectral measurements results
- visualization of the acquired results in the form of a graphical image of the spectra
